Clare Crane

Clare has recently joined Abzeco as a Senior Zoologist with over 27 years of experience in the ecology industry with 17 of those years working as a zoologist / ecologist in south-eastern Australia.

As a consultant Clare has eight years’ experience working in Victoria and applying federal and various states’ environmental policy and planning legislation to respective environmental assessments, referrals, reports and conservation management plans.

Clare has extensive experience in long-term monitoring of vertebrates for all species encountered, management of large projects with multiple sites and land managers, conducting various survey techniques for flora and fauna surveys, species habitat and impact assessments, presenting research results and encouraging adoption of biodiversity asset management on farms at field events. Clare has also been involved with Southern Greater Glider Petauroides volans volans post 19-20 bushfire surveys on private land around Batlow, NSW since 2022.

Recent Projects:

• Hancock Victorian Plantations – Biodiversity Monitoring across HVP estate in Victoria: Camera trapping for small to medium-sized ground mammals, 20- minute bird census (200 m walking transect), 500 m spotlight transect for gliders and other nocturnal fauna, and artificial shelter (tin and concrete paver) surveys for small mammals and reptiles on HVP’s native forest (non- plantation) estate throughout Victoria.
• Targeted surveys for the threatened Pink-tailed Worm-lizard for Essential
  Energy sub-contractor along Henty-Uranquity Powerline, NSW.
• Threatened species monitoring of Southern Brown Bandicoot, Growling Grass Frog, Dwarf Galaxias and Australian Grayling for the Victorian Desalination Project Transfer Pipe at four waterbody crossings near Koo Wee Rup, Vic.
• Southern Brown camera trapping to inform EPBC Act referral for Metro trains Melbourne Proposed Stabling Yard, Nar Nar Goon, Vic.
• Monitoring Growling Grass Frog post-construction of Donnybrook Interchange, Hume Highway, Donnybrook, Vic.
• Camera trapping and bird surveys of offset sites, for Spotted Tail Quoll, Regents Honeyeater and threatened woodland birds, BHP, Singleton, NSW.
