Clare Crane

Clare has recently joined Abzeco as a Senior Zoologist with over 27 years of experience in the ecology industry with 17 of those years working as a zoologist / ecologist in south-eastern Australia.

As a consultant Clare has eight years’ experience working in Victoria, as well as other states, and applying federal and various states’ environmental policy and planning legislation to respective environmental assessments, referrals, reports and species conservation management plans. As a consultant Clare has conducted surveys for various threatened fauna and flora including Southern Brown Bandicoot, Brush-tailed Phascogale, Fat-tailed Dunnart, Spot-tailed Quoll, Striped Legless-lizard, Cunningham’s Skink, Pink-tailed Worm-Lizard Growling Grass Frog, Spotted Tree Frog, Sloane’s Froglet, Southern Toadlet, Bush-stone Curlew, Powerful Owl, Golden Sun Moth, Dwarf Galaxias, River Swamp Wallaby-grass, Spiny Rice-flower and Matted Flax-Lily.

Clare has extensive experience in long-term monitoring of terrestrial and arboreal vertebrates and woodland vegetation, management of large projects with multiple sites and land managers, species habitat and impact assessments, presenting research results and presenting research results on farms at field events. Clare has also been involved with Southern Greater Glider post 19-20 bushfire surveys and providing capacity training to find gliders on private land around Batlow, NSW.  Clare has also been involved with research on the Pink-tailed Worm-Lizard, Box Gum Grassy Woodlands and reintroduction of Eastern Quoll and Southern Brown Bandicoot to Booderee National Park, Jervis Bay Territory.

Recent Projects:

• Hancock Victorian Plantations – Biodiversity Monitoring across HVP estate in Victoria: Camera trapping for small to medium-sized ground mammals, Birdlife bird censuses, spotlight transect for arboreal marsupials, owls and other nocturnal fauna, and artificial shelter surveys for small mammals and reptiles on HVP’s native forest (non-plantation) estate across Victoria.
• Targeted surveys for the threatened Striped Legless-lizard for Hume County Council, Melbourne, VIC.
• Monitoring Latham’s Snipe Gallinago hardwickii for Winslow and Major Victorian Roads Projects, Mitchell Shire, VIC.
